IVAN IVANOVYCH OGIENKO (metropolitan Illarion) – the outstanding Ukrainian linguist, the historian, the state and church person, the pedagogue. He had been working as the professor of Kyiv Saint Volodymyr University and as the ordinary professor and the rector of the Kamenets-Podolskyi Ukrainian University for 1917-1920. He was Minister of Education (1918) and Minister of Religion (1919-1921) in government of the Ukrainian National Republic.

He was the winner of the international competition of vocalists in Prague (1950). He was the soloist Kyiv Theatre of an Opera and Ballet and then Kharkov Theatres of an Opera and Ballet. His famous parties were Taras, Vybornyi ("Taras Bulba" and "Natalka Poltavka" of Lysenko), Maxim Krivonos ("Bogdan Khmelnytskiy" of Dankevich), Kochubey ("Mazepa" of Chajkovskiy), Rafael ("Faust" of Guno).
