The characteristic of district

The Brusyliv administrative district is located in a
south-east part of Zhytomyr region.
Ground surface of Brusyliv area is a hilly plain (the spurs
of Dnipro height) dismembered by wide valleys of the rivers. The greatest river
of the district is Zdvyzh on which the Vodotyi reservoir is disposed.
Minerals: peat, sand, clay, mergel, a granite.
Soil is mainly dark grey and grey sylvan.
The river Zdvyzh begins with a marsh near village Grubskoe
and flows through the Brusyliv district of Zhytomyr region and also through
Makariv, Borodyanka and Ivankiv districts of the Kyiv region. Zdvyzh runs into
the Teteriv river (a basin of the river Dnipro). The length of the river Zdvyzh
is 145 km and the area of water basin is 1775 sq. km. The valley of the river
looks like to the trapeze form in width up to 4 km and in depth up to 25 m. A
bed of the river is a moderately twisting in width up to 20 m and in depth up to
2 meters. An inclination of the river is approximately of 0,59 m / km.
Zdvyzh usually starts to freeze at the end of November and
ice on the river completely thaws in the middle of March. Some water reservoirs
were constructed to regulate a drain of the river. The largest one is the
Vodotyi reservoir which is located on distance of 4 km from Brusyliv. In the
summer this reservoir is a good place for fishing and for rest. Many people from
Kyiv and Zhytomyr spend their holiday here. There are many different berries and
mushrooms in the riverside forests.
The Brusyliv district was restored in 1990. It had been
caused by resettlement of inhabitants from Narodychi and some others northern
districts of Zhytomyr region which had suffered from radiation after damage on
the Chernobyl atomic power station.
Historically the Brusyliv district had been formed in 1923.
It was one of the district center of Kyiv region. But on 22 of September of 1937
as a result of division of the Kyiv region Brusyliv district was included in
Zhytomyr region. Then it consisted of 34 settlements which were submitted to 28
Rural Councils. Vilnya, Vilenka and Zdvyzhka were included in Brusyliv district
(nowadays these villages belong to Korostyshiv district) but Skochysche,
Sobolivka, Gnylets (Dolynivka), Ozera and Bykiv had been belonged to Kornyn
district until 1962.
From 1962 to 1990 Brusyliv and nearby villages were part of
Korostyshiv district of Zhytomyr region.
Population of the Brusyliv district is about 16,5 thousands
people and 6,0 thousands of them have the injured status in result of damage on
the Chernobyl atomic power station.
Presently the most advanced industries of the Brusyliv
district are food-processing, manufacture of building materials, paint and
varnish, agriculture and trade.
The processing flax shop of agriculture company “Agrofirma
Brusyliv” is a well-known not only in Ukraine but abroad. In spite of the fact
that the agricultural production takes leading place in business structure of
district the significant attention is also removed to development of processing
industry. Processing milk factory is successfully developed. It produces a wide
range of the Goods: pasteurized milk, butter, casein, fermented baked milk,
kefir, sour cream, pasteurized cream, glazed cottage cheese.
There are two small meat factories that produce the sausage
products here. Some years ago fish processing factory was opened.
The huge role in filling of local budget plays trade. The
Brusyliv open market has been known as a large trade center for a long time.
Every Sunday popular fairs are organized in this open market. Many manufacturers
and dealers from Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Vinnitsa, Khmelnitskiy, Cherkassy regions come
here to sale their production. The Brusyliv open market is now located in the
same place where the former town market was (on a way from Krakow to Kyiv) in
days of Rich Pospolyta.
Brusyliv town and 36 villages are formed the present Brusyliv
district. One urban Council and 18 rural Councils are put together in
administrative structure of district.
There are 24 secondary schools, 6 kindergartens, sports
school, 18 medical assistant's points and 6 ambulance stations, hospital and
polyclinic in Brusyliv district. Besides the Brusyliv House of culture 17 clubs
and 12 rural Houses of culture, 26 libraries, a historical museum, children's
musical school, subdivisions of 3 banks are very successfully function.
